I really like the Tonka Ricochet remote control car. It is a well built speed demon that is will burn rubber on the cement, but also has the power to cruise around on grass. While it does have a couple of quirks concerning the battery it absolutely scores an A+ in terms of fun. The Tonka Ricochet is able to reach impressive speeds on wet or dry pavement with significant range (75-100 feet). A few other notes - The battery is packed almost dead, so if this is a present you may want to open the box and charge the battery. Otherwise, this is one Christmas present that require 4 hours before it can be played with. - As mentioned it takes 4 hours to charge the battery. - Speaking of the battery, it must be completely removed from the car in order to be charged. This is not a difficult, but it does require a philips head screw-driver. While older kids ay not have an issue removing the batter younger kids may need the... This RC truck is very similar to other Tonka RC's, but it has a recording and replay feature rather than the Monster Lift as an example. The replay feature works but doesn't add much fun. It feels like a gimmick to provide differentiation. The kids enjoy the Monster Lift feature on the other Tonka RC much more. It turns the low riding and long truck into a monster truck.The battery life is very poor. The instructions say to charge it for 4 hours to get 15 minutes of run time. Depending on how much you are truly driving the care while you play with it, 15 minutes of run time might be around 30 minutes of play time. Frustrating. It seems to be very sturdy like our other Tonka RC is. We've crashed it a lot and there are no signs of any problems. The first few times the kids played with this RC, they thought it was very fun. "Awesome" was the word that they used. After the third time, they lost interest. They haven't asked to pull it out in weeks... I'm an adult who is never going to grow up. Period. So I had a lot of fun with this thing. I raced it around my living room... it even does back flips (The husband managed that.) I also raced it around my back yard. Yes, it works in the grass too. Didn't get stuck once. My pug thoroughly enjoyed chasing and barking at it. The lowdown: It's a decent size, has huge tires which enable it to do many things (the back flips and such), BUT accessing the battery compartment to charge or recharge or re install the battery requires you to unscrew the door every time. As I don't just leave screw drivers laying around my house, I found this to be a tiny pain in the butt. Otherwise, I dig it. I especially appreciate that the battery in the car is rechargeable. It can also "record" your trick combinations though I didn't enable this feature. No point. I didn't do anything that fancy. |
